Reviewed by the Eastern Daily Press as a venue in deepest South Norfolk “worth seeking out”, Wheatacre White Lion is set within 2 acres of idyllic countryside. Near Beccles, it is only a short distance to the Norfolk Broads and the bustling seaside towns of Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth. The City of Norwich is also just 20 miles away.
A visit to the bar will provide refreshment in equal measure to both the weary rambler and the most discerning wine connoisseur. We are also proud to be a Freehouse as it ensures that we can focus on seeking out and serving the finest ales and food from fine local independent suppliers. Wherever possible, we use seasonal produce sourced locally, whilst supporting Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance products. We purchase our fish straight from the shores of Lowestoft and our meat is provided by butchers from Harleston and Southwold.
The food is inspired by our surroundings and as such draws heavily from the sea and our countryside setting. Our Chef emphasises quality and authenticity at the heart of his open farmhouse kitchen, so whether you want a Cromer Crab Salad in midst of the summer sun, or when only a Game Casserole will suffice on the coldest of winter days, we have the perfect dishes for every season.
The White Lion has been described by critics and customers alike as a posh pub at realistic prices in “a home away from home” setting. The roaring log fire and the blend of contemporary, yet traditional decor invoke a warm and comfortable dining experience within a beautiful listed Georgian Building. Our Motto is simple “Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere.”
We also offer 4 luxury period bed and breakfast rooms for the special stay. A caravan and camping site is available and we can cater for weddings, events and private and corporate hire. Disabled access and facilities are available at the premises.
Fully licensed between 6am to 3am every day. The premises are open 7 days a week, Mon to thurs – 11am till 3pm, 5.30pm till 11.30pm and Fri, Sat and Sun open all day 11am till 11.30pm. The Restaurant serves till 9.30pm Mon, Thurs, Fri and Sat and 9pm Tues Weds and Sun. We now have our Chinese Menu available for bookings or takeaways 6pm till 9.30pm every Mon and the menu is available to view online here. We advise to please Book for dinner to avoid disappointment.
As part of our aim to encourage healthier eating, all children can order from the normal menus in smaller portions.
